About Us
Noah's Friends Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that was founded in 2000. We are a sanctuary and rescue organization that specializes in finding homes for homeless dogs.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to provide safe sanctuary for unwanted, homeless dogs and to find loving homes for them. We house dogs at our sanctuary and find potential adopters through our web site and word of mouth. We utilize a stringent application process involving an application, a home visit, and an evaluation following the adoption.
Our Work
On average, Noah's adopts out 75 to 100 dogs and 30 cats per year. On occasion, we have fostered dogs for individuals who were in crisis situations such as battered wives, rescue groups that needed space, and other family emergency situations. Every unaltered dog (or cat) who we have rescued has been spayed or neutered by Noah's. In October 2002, we began a program that provides that every dog who we adopt out will be microchipped. We also participate in the "Rescue Railroad" in which our volunteers agree to transport rescue dogs throughout the state of California.
Services and Programs
Noah's rescues and adopts out dogs to loving homes, offers sanctuary (kennel space) for some emergency situations, and has an outreach program through which we visit local convalescent homes and schools (elementary through high school). Our educational presentations at schools involve pet care, selection of a pet, how to care for a pet, and how to avoid dog bites.
Volunteers
Noah's recruits volunteers to assist with our operations. Volunteers must be good with dogs, be at least 18 years old, and have their own transportation. The types of work available include exercising the dogs, basic obedience training, simple grooming and bathing of dogs, kennel cleaning, feeding & watering, transporting to and from veterinarians or to new homes, home visits, and assist in special fund raising projects and community events.
