About Us
Kings SPCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that operates an Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.

Our Purpose
Kings SPCA's mission is to assist with and provide for the health and welfare of animals who have been abused, injured and abandoned; to provide a safe haven for the animals entrusted to our care, providing them shelter for as long as possible to maximize their chances for finding new homes; to facilitate the provision of low-cost spay/neuter services to the community and to educate the community about the necessity of spay/neutering of all pets; to refer cruelty and neglect complaints to Kings County Animal Control; to promote public awareness of the benefits of responsible pet ownership, and to promote the philosophy that all living creatures deserve ethical consideration, protection and respect from mankind.

Our Work
We take in approximately 144 dogs and cats per year, and house an average of 130 on an ongoing basis.  We adopt out approximately 168 dogs and cats per year and facilitate the spaying/neutering of approximately 723 animals per year.

Services and Programs
Services and programs include assistance with locating lost pets, providing animal placement services, facilitating provision of low-cost spay/neutering of animals through bi-weekly transportation of pets to contracted veterinarian, educational presentations to schools.  We have implemented the "Pet Project Program" in collaboration with the county Probation Department Boot Camp program:  through this program, juvenile offenders in Boot Camp are encouraged to participate in the Pet Project by providing care to our shelter animals.  During their bi-weekly visits, the kids groom, exercise, entertain and feed the animals.  This project has been hugely successful in fostering the bond between these kids and animals; it has not only helped the youth develop job skills, but has had a dramatic effect on their ability to relate to, feel compassion for and develop emotional attachment to the pets entrusted to their care.

Volunteers
Volunteers are critical to the operation of our shelter and will be even more so in the future as we attempt to increase our participation in the "No More Homeless Pets" movement.  In the future we intend to become increasingly proactive by linking with other animal protection organizations in the region to actively participate in the rescue, foster home placement, and permanent adoption of our homeless animals in addition to the implementation of an aggressive spay/neuter campaign.  This can only happen with a foundation of committed volunteers from the community.
